Mise en Scene - Luther

My first impressions of the scene were as follows:

• city location
• office room/flat
• confident posture 
• simple hairstyle 
• black hole picture 
• meaning full looks 
• smart business wear 
• cleanly shaven 
• no wedding ring 

When further looking into the clip I noticed that there is two locations in this clip on is exterior and interior. The exterior location is the two characters stood on a some sort of bridge, in the background is a busy road and they are surrounded by a concert urban landscape. One shot of Luther his background is blurred which can mean that the audience does not know what he is thinking and what he is about to do, making him seem suspicious. The two shot showing both characters makes the appear small as there is a tall story building next to them. This makes them seem like they are insignificant. They then move in the interior location which is a quiet office flat. The flat is neat and tidy with no rubbish or clutter to be seen, it looks very boring and not very homely at all. The walls and furniture are bland with barely any colour to be seen and the furniture in the room is very functionalist. The flat is high up in the tower block which suggests that the women is of high importance. There is a lot of space related items such as the telescope and black hole picture this leads the audience to think that her hobbies have something to do with space. The telescope is carefully placed on the balcony in almost a position to watch people. This indicates that she is a voyeur and enjoys to watch things whether it is people or stars etc. In whole the flat is not stereotypical to a women as it contains many masculine features giving strong indications about the character.
They are dressed in smart but casual clothing as Luther is wearing jeans, maybe this is so he can run to catch criminals if he needs to. He also wears a big heavy coat that shows the season that they are supposed to be in. It shows off his big figure that should be towering over the women. He wears dark and grey colours so he does not stand out from the crowd too much. His hairstyle is neat and functional, nothing that is just because of fashion and it does not need to be styled. Suggesting he likes to spend time doing other things. The women is in business attire although she dose not seem to need to be, her hair is neat and seems well put together and her make-up is flawless. She is also wearing high-heels, she has obviously made an effort with this man probably because she wants to make a strong impression on him.
The women does not move her hands much as she does not need to as she uses purposeful words and her tone of voice makes her sound important so she does not need hand gestures to help he explain. Luther and the women are quite close together in some frames and he looks to tower over her but the way she acts suggests that she is in control. He flinches away from her touch and it seems strange for a tall strong man to be scared of a small ladies touch. It's they way she knows how to push his buttons that intimidates him because no matter what she is obviously in charge; always getting the last word threatening him with her power.
