Male Gaze

I have chosen to look at the video of Beyonce's song called Partition.
I have done this as I think although she is a great artist she does intend to do things in order to attract the 'male gaze.' This could be because she just likes the attention or about her views and sales.

The very start of this song is quite innocent. It displays a big house, more like a mansion and suggests whoever lives in it is very rich. This could be appealing to mean as they like girls with money but I think it is just to show what type of background Beyoncé (as the character in the video) comes from or married into.

 
The mood soon changes when she reveals that she is bored of being ignored even when she is what is seen as sexy lingerie. The camera drops at one point so the only thing the women can see are the tops of her breasts. She has her mouth open in a sexual way and acts like she is rebelling towards the male.

In this section she begins to sing the song and the camera is showing all aspects of her body whilst she wears almost skin tight clothing. This shows all of her curves. She is also wearing high heels which show her legs off. You can not see her face at all as it is dark, quite far away and her hat is covering it. It then cuts and goes to look at her wearing a almost like swimming costume design but it is covered in diamonds. Both showing her wealth but showing her body shape. It again cuts to her standing outside a car, she almost looks like she is getting picked up like a high-end prostitute.
This section switches from Beyoncé dancing in a show almost like cabaret in diamond incrusted clothing to her doing a 'show' for a man. It is unknown whether it is the same man that picked her up or a different one. She is doing sexual dance moves whilst slowing reviling more of herself for the mans enjoyment. The show consist of her dancing around from her head to waist around girls legs. I'm guessing this shows is also for men as women don't tend to enjoy this.
Moving on at the show she goes on to show that on her bottom half she is wearing dolled up revealing underwear allowing nothing to be hidden from the rear view. She moves around in such away that she wants men to look at her, revelling in the attention she is getting. It leaves nothing to the imagination as it gives a clear view of what mean want to see.

This shows Beyoncé in a line of girls who are acting like strippers and pole dancers. They wear very little clothing and dance sexually around the poles that are by each one of them. It appears to be a line of them so the men can watch which one is best in their opinion. The girls seem very fluent and the camera focuses on curves etc on their body.

Finally for this last section she dances around in yet another show for a man in little clothing, she appears to be playing up to satisfy the man and the camera captures her whole body except he face as her hair covers it and its dark. This shows what the man wants to see. She is also behind bars which gives a sense of capture and that she is in the mans control.

I could of chose to analyse every second of this video because throughout their are examples of the male gaze.
